New Associate Professor at OPEN
Jette Marcussen has been appointed as an associate professor in well-being, loss and grief at the Research Unit OPEN, Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU)
Nurse, Master in Educational Psychology, PhD, Jette Marcussen is appointed as an associate professor at the Research Unit OPEN, Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Jette has expertise in loss and grief related to chronic and critical illness, as well as well-being, mental health, and families.
Jette has been affiliated as a researcher with OPEN since 2016. She contributes a strong profile in research, education and clinical nursing. In 2020, she defended her PhD on loss and grief – a mental health perspective on the double grief experienced by children and adolescents when losing a divorced parent to cancer. Since then, at OPEN, Jette has further developed knowledge in the areas of loss, grief, and well-being related to critical and chronic illness in patients and families.
In her lecturership at OPEN, Jette will work purposefully over the coming years to develop, test, and evaluate interventions in the healthcare system that promote well-being and mental health for patients and families experiencing loss and grief, including anticipatory grief caused by chronic and critical illness. Jette will focus on patients undergoing hemodialysis and their families, patients in long-term cancer treatment, as well as pediatric patients. From March 1, 2024, Jette will be appointed as a research leader in nursing at the Department of Dermatology, Zealand University Hospital, which will also contribute to close collaboration with OPEN in developing the research field.
Furthermore, Jette maintains robust research partnerships both domestically and globally. These connections will play a crucial role in enhancing affiliations with national and international collaborators for future research initiatives at OPEN.
Internationally, Jette collaborates in networks such as "Digital Health in Menopause" with researchers from Australia, New Zealand, USA, England, and Finland. In dermatology, she engages with researchers in Ireland, and in the field of grief, she participates in a Nordic network with grief researchers. During her postdoctoral tenure, Jette was seconded from SDU to Greenland University in a part-time role focused on research and education on loss and grief.
Nationally, Jette's research at OPEN also draws on her close collaborations within research networks. She serves on the board of the "Danish Society for Family Nursing" and is employed at UC Lillebælt (UCL) in Applied Health Research.
Jette's research affiliations at SDU, OUH, Greenland University and UCL have provided stimulating environments for educational development. Since 2009, she has been employed as associated professor in nursing at UCL, enhancing her strong educational expertise, which SDU has benefited from since 2021 in the Master's program in Clinical Nursing. As an associate professor, Jette will continue to be responsible for Module 1 (KS1) and contribute to the overall curriculum development.
"I feel privileged to continue my position at OPEN as an associate professor and look forward to our collaboration. I am excited to further develop my research in loss and grief and well-being interventions tailored for families in chronic and critical illness contexts," says Jette Marcussen about her recent appointment as associate professor at SDU.
