Jesper Grud Skat Madsen earned his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Southern Denmark in 2016 and continued working at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as a post-doctoral researcher (2016 – 2019) and Assistant Professor (2020). He joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark as Assistant Professor. After 2 years, he rejoined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as Associate Professor, where he leads the MadLab group.
The MadLab group is a computational biology group that focuses on understanding how transcriptional regulation controls metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. In MadLab, we primarily work with large-scale functional genomics datasets from humans, including single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics, and apply (or develop) state-of-the-art analytical methods, ranging from statistical modelling to deep learning.
MadLab is a collaborative research group contributing and spearheading projects with several (inter)national research groups and research centers. Jesper Grud Skat Madsen is a work package leader in Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS), a DNRF-funded Center of Excellence and a founding member of the Human Gene Regulatory Map, a part of the NNF-funded Bridgehead Center between Denmark and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.
