Vijay Tiwari: The impact of Genomics on Healthy Living

The integration of genomics into healthcare has ushered in a new era of personalized medicine, where an individual's genetic and epigenetic makeup can inform health decisions and promote healthy living. Through this presentation, I will discuss how genomics, with its advancements in precision medicine and risk assessment, is revolutionizing the way we approach health and well-being. By harnessing the power of genomics, we can tailor interventions, lifestyle choices, and early detection strategies to enhance overall health, prevent disease, and extend lifespans. Lastly, I will highlight some key contributions from my team into this area and how we are attempting to evolve SDU as a key global player in Genomics and Health.

About Vijay Tiwari: He is a Full Professor in neurobiology and came to SDU from a Professorship at Queens University in the UK. His education and research have spanned leading Institutions across six countries. Originally educated in Molecular and Human Genetics at the Banaras Hindu University in India he obtained his PhD from Uppsala University in Sweden with Post Doc stays at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, USA, and Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI), Basel, Switzerland. He started his independent research career at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Germany before moving to the UK. His research applies a highly multidisciplinary approach to uncover the communication between genetic and epigenetic information in determining cell identity and how this goes awry in diseases.
