Jan Wilhelm Kornfeld

After obtaining his PhD in Cell Biology at the Boltzmann Institute for Cancer Research, Austria (2008), JWK conducted his postdoc training with Jens Brüning in Germany (2013). He carried out seminal work illustrating how obesity-associated microRNAs underlie hepatic insulin resistance and monogenic forms of diabetes. JWK started his independent group at the German Cluster of Excellence: Cellular Stress Responses in Ageing-Associated Diseases (CECAD, 2013) and the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research in Cologne, Germany (2014). His work is supported by international excellence programs such as an Emmy-Noether Grant for early independence (2014) and an ERC Starting Grant (2015).
