Ph.D. Lasse Aaskoven is Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management at SDU.

He is was previously Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Government at the University of Essex. He received his Ph.D. in May 2018 from the Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen.

Lasse Aaskovens research has been published or is forthcoming in European Journal of Political ResearchComparative PoliticsPolitical StudiesJournal of European Public PolicyEconomics & PoliticsJournal of Public PolicyPolitical Science Research and MethodsEuropean Journal of Political EconomyActa PoliticaOxford Research Encyclopedia of PoliticsPublic Choice, and Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory.

His research spans several areas in comparative politics and comparative political economy. One of his main research topics is how fiscal institutions, such as fiscal rules, impact national politics in both democratic and non-democratic countries. He also has a special interest in the political economy of elections including the study of political budget cycles.

In another strain of his research, he explores the effects of different political parties and interest organizations on public policies both at the comparative and subnational level. In his newest research agenda, he attempts to answer classic questions in political science using original historical data. These questions include the determinants of promotions in autocracies and the political impact of wealth inequality.
