My research in HADAL Centre is related to hydrostatic pressure response of freely dissolved extracellular enzymes, produced by marine bacteria. For this work, a high-pressure ultraviolet-visible optical cell is utilized for estimating in situ deep-sea enzyme kinetics in real time under extreme hydrostatic pressure.

Additionally, as a PhD student, I will be focusing on Arctic benthic primary production, specifically investigating its drivers, magnitude and timing. A series of field, laboratory and modelling practices will be employed such as high-resolution oxygen measurements via aquatic eddy covariance, sediment incubations, advanced imaging techniques, and remote sensing to comprehensively study this crucial aspect of Arctic Ocean ecosystems. By bridging knowledge gaps, assessing the impact of climate change, this project aims to provide valuable insights into the role of Arctic benthic primary production in shaping biogeochemistry and food web dynamics in the face of a changing Arctic environment, ultimately contributing to effective management and conservation strategies.
