Ceren Kasım is a researcher, lawyer, and consultant currently serving as a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow at the University of Hildesheim in Germany. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Göttingen and a master's degree from Humboldt University of Berlin, as well as an undergraduate degree in Law from the Ankara University.
Ceren's research covers a wide range of legal topics including the theory of law, international law, human rights, labour law, comparative law, and anti-discrimination law. Her research has been recognised through various grants and scholarships, including prestigious awards from the Turkish Programme for the Promotion of Outstanding Young Researchers and the Hans Böckler Foundation, as well as DAAD and ISLSSL scholarships. Ceren has made significant contributions through her publications on issues such as human rights in the workplace, discrimination protection, anti-union dismissal, remote work, and gender-based violence.
Ceren is a qualified attorney-at-law. Prior to her master's education, she worked as an in-house lawyer at the Social Security Institution of the Turkish Republic (SGK) in Ankara and was a trainee at IG Metall, Department of Legal Affairs, in Berlin. As an external consultant, she served at the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO) focusing on topics related to resilience and social dialogue.
During her stay at SDU, Ceren will be working on research papers on the impacts of the European Union Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence (CSDDD) and the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (GSCDDA) in promoting the right to equality and protection against discrimination in Türkiye. Together with her mentor Vincenzo, she will discuss potential research ideas for future collaboration between JUST SOCIETY, the University of Hildesheim, and Turkish stakeholders and academia.
