Benedikte Brincker is Professor at the University of Copenhagen. Her research assumes a long term historical and comparative perspective and engages with the question of how nations emerge and the political role of art therein. She has published extensively on this topic in among other journals: Sociology, Nations and Nationalism and the Historical Journal of Sociology. In recent years, Brincker has extended this research agenda into the Arctic region where she explores nation formation in a post-colonial context with a special focus on Greenland. She contributes substantially to international scholarly debates on the Arctic region and is the author of the chapter on Greenland and the Faroe Islands in the Routledge Handbook on Comparative Territorial Autonomies (Fong, B and Ichijo, A, 2022). In February 2020, Brincker assumed the position as Head of Department at the Department of Sociology, the University of Copenhagen.
