Erica Benner works on political philosophy, ethics and intellectual history. Her books include Really Existing Nationalisms (Oxford 1995), three books on Machiavelli, and a forthcoming book with Penguin on ancient and modern democracy. She has written chapters on the intellectual origins of nationalism for the Cambridge History of Philosophy, the Oxford Handbook on the History of Nationalism, and other collected volumes. She is currently President of the European Society for the History of Political Thought (ESHPT), and an editor of the Brill series History of European Political and Constitutional Thought. Having held posts at Oxford, LSE, and Yale, she is now based in Berlin and teaches at LSE Ideas.
