Elvira Laila Van Hauwaert graduated from the University of Southern Denmark in June 2017 as a Master of Science (MSc) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She has been a member of the research group of Professor Susanne Mandrup since her bachelor’s studies, where she has been involved in the work of elucidating transcriptional networks determining lineage commitment and differentiation potential of human mesenchymal stem cells.
Elvira has been employed as a PhD student in ATLAS since January 2018, where she is working on projects that relate to adipose tissue plasticity in obesity. She has a profound interest in the mechanisms by which transcriptional networks regulate key cellular processes and a strong background in applying bioinformatics to uncover novel biological insight. In ATLAS, she applies advanced single cell computational methods to determine the regulatory networks that governs adipose tissue plasticity in response to obesity and weight loss. She continued as a research assistant until Spring 2022, after which she pursued a career in Odense-based company Bioomix.
