Course description
This course is aimed at PhD students who are planning the structure of their thesis or are in the process of writing it up. This will typically be students in their 2nd or 3rd year. We will discuss the formal requirements for an SDU thesis and then describe the main models for structuring the scientific content, where the various strands from the articles are pulled together into a cohesive story.
You will have a chance to work on the structure of your own thesis and to discuss/compare this with others in the class. The tutors will be available for individual advice on the structure and content of your own thesis.
Please note that the course is about the overall structure of a thesis and not how to deal with the text itself.
What you will get from this class:
- A list of formal requirements for your own thesis, in the order that suits your own work
- Knowledge about what the opponents are looking for (and not looking for) in your thesis
- A plan for how to structure your own scientific material in the ‘body’ of the thesis so that it tells a logical story
- Strategies to help you write your thesis faster
The course is free of charge for PhD students enrolled in Universities that have joined the "Open market agreement" and/ or NorDoc agreement
For all other participants the course fee is:
DKK 1200
