Mette Munk Lauridsen is currently in an associate professor at the Hospital of Southwest Jutland, Esbjerg, Denmark and specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She works in close collaboration with colleagues, from FLASH and ATLAS, in achieving or common goal of improving our understanding of fatty liver disease. Her main task is to run the clinical part of the ATLAS project i.e. the PROMETHEUS-study, which involves thoroughly examining bariatric patients for the presence of fatty liver disease and obtaining liver biopsies, for histology and analysis in the ATLAS Centre. Mette was awarded the PhD title in 2016 for her thesis on brain dysfunction caused by liver disease i.e. minimal hepatic encephalopathy. Her scientific and clinical work in this research field is on going.
