Lillebælt Hospital is part of  University Hospital of Southern Denmark which is strategically focused on research, innovation, and the dissemination of knowledge.

Lillebælt Hospital is renowned for its strong clinical and research capabilities both nationally and internationally. It particularly excels in areas such as Oncology, Imaging Diagnostics, Back Treatment, and Shared Decision Making.

The Centre for Shared Decision Making and the Back Centre Southern Denmark are leading units attracting national and international focus. The Southern Denmark Colorectal Cancer Centre, recognised as a Centre for Clinical Excellence, sets a benchmark for other cancer specialties.

Lillebælt Hospital spans two locations in Kolding and Vejle. It hosts both robust, well-established research groups and smaller, burgeoning research teams. These groups are strategically organised into clusters alongside other specialties.

Lillebælt Hospital has formed a health innovation partnership with DANDY Business Park to connect private companies with hospital departments, promoting innovation and research. The organisational structure at Lillebælt Hospital is built on trust, flexibility, and self-managed teams.

To enhance the research infrastructure, a new department focused on data, innovation, and research has been established. This department offers comprehensive research support and guidance, including epidemiological and statistical assistance for researchers.
