An innovative and recognized research environment

This exceptional space fosters the convergence of theory and practice, fuelling innovation and supporting the local and regional industries with highly skilled graduates.

SDU Vejle is built on two new academic centres dedicated to groundbreaking research and education covering a broad range of areas within IT.

This exceptional space fosters the convergence of theory and practice, fuelling innovation and supporting the local and regional industries with highly skilled graduates.

The academic focus of the SDU Centre for Software Technology is to conduct research and development to enhance the engineering of products using interactive information technology. It also aims to improve infrastructures with reliable software technology. The goal is to understand how these two perspectives can complement each other to engineer the next generation of reliable and interactive software solutions. A key challenge is to understand how to integrate AI-based software development with a human-centred approach in the engineering of products and infrastructures.

The Centre for Computer Science and AI aims at being an interdisciplinary hub covering a wide range of core topics in computer science and artificial intelligence. Its academic focus is to conduct cutting-edge research on different dimensions of digital technology, ranging from the more technical (machine learning, cloud technology, hardware design) to the more theoretical (algorithmics, programming languages, symbolic AI), but also including topics at the intersection of technology and society (cybersecurity, explainable AI, machine ethics). By promoting the interaction between theory and experiment and in close collaboration with local business and industry, the research environment in the centre will be a key enabler and a cornerstone in the digital development of the local and national society.

The vision of SDU Vejle is to:

  • Create world-class breakthroughs and knowledge within the centres’ academic focus areas
  • Educate highly desired engineers and IT specialists within the centres’ academic focus areas
  • Ensure highly valuable collaborations with the business community

The centres depend on access to modern laboratories and advanced computing infrastructure to support its research and teaching activities. The plan is to establish multiple laboratories that support working with both product and infrastructure perspectives such as prototyping, software development, product design and testing, as well as AI and edge-cloud computing.

SDU Vejle offers an inspiring research environment. Here, researchers are not only pushing the boundaries of IT knowledge but also developing technologies that will shape the future of industries and society.

The initiative around SDU Vejle is driven by the collaboration between the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at SDU, each bringing a wealth of expertise in both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of IT. Together, and in close collaboration with local businesses and industry, they form a research ecosystem that blends rigorous academic inquiry with real-world impact to address some of the most pressing challenges in modern technology.
