Extended deadline: Call for papers for LangEnact II
The deadline for paper submission for LangEnact II has been extended to 21 May 2017. The theme of the event is „Meaning without Representation: Grounding Language in Sensorimotor Coordination“. It will focus on ecological and enactive approaches to linguistics and language studies, and how these can be traced to sensorimotor coordination. The conference will take place from 25 to 27 September in Odense, Denmark.

CHI member, Christian Mosbæk Johannessen’s paper “Experiential meaning potential in the Topaz Energy logo: a framework for graphemic and graphetic analysis of graphic logo design” has just been published in Social Semiotics.

CHI participates in a 10 mio. kr. project funded by The Nordea Foundation
CHI member Erin L. Beatty and CHI director Sune V. Steffensen will participate in a project funded by The Nordea Foundation that will provide brain training in 18 Danish schools. The Nordea Foundation has funded 10 mio. Danish kr. to the project. The award will also co-finance a Ph.D. position at SDU to test the program’s efficacy scientifically.

Workshop on Agent Based models of Bounded Rationality
The workshop will take place on 7th-8th May 2015 at the University of Southern Denmark in Slagelse. The aim of the workshop is to explore how ABM can either build on existing knowledge on bounded rationality, find alternative/complementary conceptualizations, or move away from the original concept.

CHIAS II pursues how interactivity and, by extension, language are grounded in coordination by living, embrained bodies. Alain Berthoz and Didier Bottineau introduce the theme with a paper entitled “Human speech and natural languages as simplex systems of embodied coordination and interactivity.”

Research study abroad – an interview with Sarah Bro Pedersen
Sarah Bro Pedersen, ph.d. student member of CHI, recently returned from a year and a half academic journey around the world. Among others she visited Per Linell in Sweden (professor of Linguistics, Göteborg University), David Kirsh in the US (professor of Cognitive Science, University of California San Diego) and Mark Bishop in the UK (professor of Cognitive Computing, University of London).

Davide Secchi visits CHI in the fall
CHI are happy to welcome Dr. Davide Secchi from Bournemouth University as visiting scholar in (parts of) the fall of 2014. Davide will be collaborating with several members of CHI in relation to his research interests including distributed cognition and organizations, organizational cognition and models of socially responsible behavior and bounded rationality.

Visit from professor Nigel Love (University of Cape Town)
Nigel Love of the University of Cape Town spent a week at the Centre for Human Interactivity. In his time here, Nigel delivered two lectures, and, during our research meeting, provoked lively discussion on the claim that language consists in two orders of regularity, a claim that is central to both integrational linguistics and the distributed view of language and cognition.
