Children of seriously ill patients are a vulnerable and overseen group of relatives. This project explores the barriers and mechanisms that influence whether and how children are brought up as an issue between healthcare professionals and seriously ill patients.
Purpose
The project explores: 1) The healthcare professionals’ barriers for addressing children as an issue 2) The significance of the medical context communicating with seriously ill patients about their children, and 3) Patients perspectives on communicating about their children
Methods
Fieldwork and interviews on three hospital wards.
