Why did you choose to study Cand.merc. Market Anthropology?

I have studied a Bachelor in Market and Management Anthropology, and really got the taste for mixing economic and consumer understandings with the methods, that are the heart of Anthropology. At my fifth semester I was abroad in Mexico, where I did a fieldwork that was the basis for writing my Bachelor’s thesis. Despite from wanting to learn even more about Anthropology and how to use it, I knew that I wanted my Master’s thesis to be in the same spirit. To do a fieldwork in my third semester, and then use this as a basis for writing a Master’s thesis in my fourth semester. I am now doing an Internship combined with a fieldwork, which I think is a unique and very great possibility as a student.

How do you like the study environment at the campus?

The study environment at Campus is good in the way that there are many places to study, both for groups and for individual work. Also, there is always help if you need it. I have experience both open-minded and very helpful staff in the Library, but also professors, who are very interested in helping you. Often they are enthusiastic about the ideas you have and always ready to help, if you ask for it. I have also met many great people at SDU, many of which I have become very close with.

What would you like to say to someone who is interested in studying the same Master as yours?

Combining economic understanding with marketing, consumer behavior and anthropology is a very unique mix, and to me the best mix there is. In my masters I have had courses of different characters, which appeals greatly to me. I have had classic lectures with many other students, also from other degrees. And I have also had smaller courses with around 15 students, where we have been able to really participate in the lecturing and where we have decided on a project in the beginning of the semester, being allowed to use the lectures so that it make sense to our project. I have learned a lot from that, since I have come to understand how all of the topics, methods and so that the lectures have focused on can be applied to one specific topic. I also learned a lot from discussing my ideas and topic with the professors but also my fellow students throughout the course. This way of lecturing combined with the great opportunity to do fieldwork in the third semester is exactly why I would recommend all who are interested to choose exactly this masters degree.
