We strive to utilize and translate our research in muscle and joint health to the benefit of individual people and society. We do this through a number of outreach activities as well as through interaction and collaboration with clinicians, patients, the public, and other stakeholders. Some examples of such activities can be seen below.
Outreach
Outreach activities constitute a central element in FOFs strategy to disseminate research findings and interact with clinicians, patients, the public, and other stakeholders.
One example is Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark (GLA:D®), which is a not-for-profit initiative started in 2013 by FOF researches Ewa Roos and Søren Thorgaard Skou. The aim of GLA:D® is to implement guideline recommended treatment for individuals with knee and hip osteoarthritis in primary care in Denmark.
This initiative has trained more than 1400 physiotherapist that delivers evidence-based standardised treatment of knee and hip osteoarthritis across 430 private and public GLA:D® units spread across Denmark. More than 70,000 patients have started the GLA:D® programme. Furthermore, the GLA:D® programme has been successfully implemented in Canada, Australia, China, and Switzerland, and the number of involved countries continues to grow. Follow GLAD on twitter.
A last example is the involvement of FOF researches in the development of clinical guidelines and recommendations. FOF researchers have participated in the development of a number of clinical guidelines and recommendations:

Collaborator
We have a strong collaboration with the Pain Center, including 3 ongoing RCT´s concerning non-pharmacological treatment of chronic back pain and treatment of sleep problems in chronic pain patients. Read more.
Collaboration with Lolland and Roskilde municipalities, FysioDanmark Holbæk, and hospitals in Holbæk, Roskilde, Køge, Slagelse, and Næstved, as well as the Psychiatry in Region Zealand on the development and evaluation of training and self-management for citizens with two or more concurrent diseases (multimorbidity). The results of the RCT study are expected by mid-2024. Subsequently, an implementation plan will be developed in collaboration with the partners (if the results support it).
Evaluation and prevention of long-term consequences (OA) after knee injury (SUPERKNEE) and GLA:D Australia, an evidence-based patient-education and exercise implementation program originating from University of Southern Denmark.
OPTIKNEE is an international consensus group focused on improving knee health and preventing osteoarthritis after a traumatic knee injury. SOAR KNEE is a virtually-delivered physiotherpasit-guided knee health program.
