Work/research interest
Our research program mainly aims at exploiting recent advances in stem cell biology to understand the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD).

Using stem cells and cell lines derived from developing human brain tissue (neural stem cells) and patients with PD (induced pluripotent stem cells), we pursue investigating the following topics:

  • Neurodegeneration in familial and sporadic PD
  • Interaction between neurons and glial cells in PD
  • Potential use of stem cells for cell replacement in PD

The overall ambition of our research is to advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying PD, discover potential disease-modifying targets and contribute to the development of new therapies.

Methods and techniques
Immunocytochemistry, histology, Western blotting, cytokine profiling, various biochemical/molecular assays, stereotactic cell transplantation, behavioral analyses, and bioimaging techniques.
