The research unit at the Children and Youth Department is part of the Lillebælt Hospital, which covers all hospitals in the Southern Denmark Region, and is affiliated with the Institute of Regional Health Research.
For over 25 years, the research group has had a professor and a varying number of lecturers. The department has continuously produced PhDs, and between 25 and 40 peer-reviewed articles are published annually.
Research Goals
The research is based on the fact that the department is a regional department where children with "common disorders" are examined, treated, and cared for. The focus is therefore on patient-oriented research, where an interdisciplinary approach is important. The department also strives to involve users in the research process. The overall aim is to contribute to the creation of new knowledge that can be implemented in the department to improve the treatment and care of children and youth, as well as to ensure and improve patient/parent satisfaction.
Research Areas and Collaboration
The research unit focuses on research in the following areas:
- Congenital malformations
- Infectious diseases
- Asthma/allergy
- Diabetes
- Neonatology
- Research in communication and organization
The group collaborates with regional, national, and international groups to contribute to research on rarer diseases and to increase external collaboration in research and clinical work for the patient groups relevant to the department. Moreover, there is a long tradition of participating in research and research development in developing countries.
