Exuberant and creative teaching
Associate Professor Søren Wiatr Borg from the Department of Technology and Innovation is the Teacher of the Year 2015 at the Faculty of Engineering.
"Through exuberant and creative teaching, Søren has the ability to relate the academic material in textbooks to - as the students put it - "real life" and life as a graduate engineer." That is what was said when Associate Professor Søren Wiatr Borg received SDU's Teaching Award 2015 at the Annual University Celebration on 30th October.
"I'm unbelievably happy and honoured to have been awarded the prize. It means a lot to be recognised for what I love and spend a lot of time doing. And it makes me happy that the recommendation comes from both students and colleagues," said Søren Wiatr Borg, who among other things was praised for inviting inspiring professionals along to his teaching sessions and arranging visits to companies, resulting in networks in the industry and a greater understanding of the engineer's role in society.
Inspiring the students
The students appreciate that they can seek help and inspiration from a teacher who has such energy and drive for what he is passionate about. In the recommendation, they mention that:
"Søren radiates respect in a pleasant way, partly because he is professionally strong and curious and partly because he doesn't hide that the students themselves are responsible for accepting and being critical of the teaching they are offered."
Broad professional commitment
Søren is also recommended for the Taching Award for his great and wholehearted commitment to the Faculty of Engineering's material library and his involvement with the innovation centre Rethink Resources as well as with the Department of Technology and Innovation's part in building up the drone centre SDU UAS.
