    Newsletter June 2021: The E-learning Project Fund 2022

    This month’s newsletter outlines the criteria for applying for funds from the E-Learning Project Fund 2022. The project fund supports projects on e-learning that contribute to the implementation of the underlying principle of education at SDU which is active teaching and learning.

    THEME: The E-learning Project Fund 2022 - Classroom shared drawing – a student response system based on drawing

    In 2019, Henrik Skov Midtiby, associate professor at the The Faculty of Engineering, and colleagues received funding from the E-learning project fund to design a new way to receive immediate feedback during lectures via a student response system based on drawing.

    THEME: The E-learning Project Fund 2022 - The study app – test, guidance and implementation

    In 2020, Jens Jørgen Hansen, associate professor at the Institute for Design and Communication at the Faculty of Humanities, received funding from the E-learning project fund, to develop an app for students called the Study App. This app is now almost ready for implementation and focuses on three tracks.

    The Great Example - Entrepreneurship in Computer Science

    Rolf Fagerberg is responsible for the innovation part of the course Formal Languages and Data Processing along with outreach coordinator Peter Bæksgaard Madsen, where students on the third year of the programme are required to develop an idea for a product and program a prototype. In the course, SDU Entrepreneurship Labs contribute a guest lecture on using Business Model Canvas in a practical setting, along with information on what they can offer the students after they have completed the course.

    The Great Example - Technology Entrepreneurship

    Søren Jensen from the Faculty of Engineering and Jannek Sol- gaard from SDU RIO have developed the course Technology Entrepreneurship, which puts focus on giving students theoretical and practical experience with entrepreneurship through a project-oriented course, where they work with developing their own startup.

    Multiple Choice Questions as an Exam Tool

    Grith Lykke Sørensen has used multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) in exams. In the exams Grith has been responsible for, MCQ’s have been a part of the exam along with other exam tools like short answers. In general, Grith has found that MCQ is a good tool for exams when combined with other question types.

    Multiple Choice Questions as a Teaching Activity

    Mette Marie Hougaard Christensen has integrated multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) directly into her teaching. She describes MCQ’s as a great tool for engaging students and explains that you can avoid many of the challenges of the format if you spend time researching its strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, she explains that it is easy to get started using MCQ’s in teaching environments.

    Newsletter February 2021 - Teaching during COVID-19

    COVID-19 has without a doubt changed the setting and conditions of teaching at higher education programmes. In this month’s newsletter, you can read about three different studies on teaching during the COVID-19 lockdown along with an interview with a teacher, who used Flipped Learning to engage her students. A broad range of educational institutions and participants are covered between the three studies.

    Teaching with Flipped Learning Engaged Students During the Lockdown

    Marit Carolin Clausen has used Flipped Learning to engage students during the lockdown in a course, where the practical teaching form was challenged by the limited possibilities of using a physical classroom. Marit’s way of teaching turned out to be very rewarding for the students, with many of them expressing their excitement in the course evaluation – some of them said they would prefer Marit’s model going forward instead of having every lesson in the course in a physical classroom.

    Newsletter December 2020: Sustainable Development Goals at the TAL-Conference 2020

    For the 8th time, SDU Centre for Teaching and Learning hosted our annual Teaching for Active Learning conference on November 3, 2020. As always, the starting point of the conference was the Underlying Principles for Education of SDU, and this year’s main theme was “The Sustainable Development Goals in Teaching”. In this month’s newsletter, you can read about how you can use the content and theme of the conference as inspiration in your own teaching practice.

    THEME: TAL2020 - The Great Example - Lab@Home

    At the TAL2020 conference, Alexander H. Treusch, Associate Professor at The Department of Biology, presented a way of conducting practice-based lab teaching during the difficult circumstances, caused by COVID-19 for most teachers at SDU. The method, Lab@Home, let students work on experiments in the Microbiology course, which could easily be carried out at home.

    THEME: TAL2020 - The Great Example - The Student's Journey

    At the TAL2020 conference Tine Lynfort Jensen, Career and Employability Consultant with SDU RIO, and Jesper Piihl, Vice-Head of Department for Education, Department of Entrepreneurship and Relationship Management, presented The Student’s Journey. Jesper and Tine are part of the group behind The Student’s Journey and describe it as a dialogue and a constant reflection on how to create a holistic education, which in addition to academic knowledge gives the students an array of personal and professional qualifications.

    THEME: TAL2020 - The Great Example – Sustainable Materials in Product Creation

    At TAL2020, Lykke Margot Ricard, Associate Professor and Head of MSc Programme in Civil Engineering in Product Development and Innovation, and Research Assistant Sofie Bach Hybel, a former student in the programme, presented their experiences with the course Sustainable Materials in Product Creation. Furthermore, they explained how they have worked with the UN’s SDG 12, which involves Responsible Consumption and Production.

    Newsletter November 2020: Get ready for SDU’s new learning platform - itslearning

    Starting this January, SDU will get a new learning platform: itslearning. This means that all courses from February 1 will be supported by itslearning rather than Blackboard. In cooperation with the faculties, SDUUP’s task will be to guide and support teachers in their transition to the new platform. In this month’s newsletter, you can read about how we do just that.

    THEME: Learning Circles - Resource Collection: An Important Source of Knowledge on Digital Technologies

    Project Digital Competences through Learning Circles launches at SDU in October 2020. An important part of the project is the digital resource platform, which project participants will use as a starting point for their learning during the learning circles. The resource collection has been developed in cooperation between UCL, UCN and SDU, the three institutions participating in the project. Furthermore, the collection is publicly available, since the content is useful not only for the project participants.
