IRS Hospital Lillebælt
Professor of Genetics at Sygehus Lillebælt
Cand.scient., Ph.D. Klaus Brusgaard has been appointed Professor and Research Leader at the Department of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark, Research Unit for Clinical Genetics, Sygehus Lillebælt, Vejle.
Klaus Brusgaard's research aims to provide patients with more individualised treatment based on work at the genetic level. His research utilises the latest molecular biology methods to investigate both inherited and somatic changes. On this basis, he can examine genetic variations and gene activity across the entire genome. His research contributes, based precisely on the genetic profile, to the discovery of new knowledge about the individual patient's risk of disease development and the degree of this risk.
Klaus Brusgaard has conducted research in molecular genetics across a range of rare diseases and has been involved in establishing national centers of expertise for various conditions. He has also contributed to the establishment of international centers, such as the Centre of Excellence for Congenital Hyperinsulinism. This work has laid the foundation for significant research both within his own research group and in collaboration with other groups in Denmark and abroad.
Over the years, Klaus Brusgaard has engaged in international collaborations with researchers from universities in, among others, Norway, the Netherlands, England, France, Turkey, Ukraine, and the USA. He has served on various international assessment committees, participated in congress planning, and scientific committees.
Klaus Brusgaard is an editor for several scientific journals, including Plos One and Frontiers in Endocrinology. Additionally, he is involved in national collaborations concerning the interpretation of the significance of genetic variation.
Klaus Brusgaard has a large national and international network, where he participates in several major research groups and leads multiple projects, many of which are centered around diseases related to the pancreas.
Klaus Brusgaard was originally educated at the University of Southern Denmark and earned his Ph.D. from Aarhus University. He has been an associate professor at the Clinical Institute, University of Southern Denmark, for 10 years and has been affiliated with Near East University in Cyprus as an adjunct professor for several years. Klaus Brusgaard is also a co-founder of the private company Amplexa Genetics A/S.
Klaus Brusgaard resides in Vissenbjerg with his family.
