Denmark has an extensive public healthcare system that offers free consultation and treatment at a general practitioner (GP), specialists, public hospitals and other healthcare services such as nursing care.
When you receive your yellow health card, you are covered by the Danish health insurance system. Most examinations and treatments are free.
Dentist
You can choose freely between all practicing dentists in Denmark, and are required to cover all dental expenses yourself. However, a minor state subsidy is deducted as part of the Danish public health care reimbursement scheme before you receive your dental invoice.
Children and young people below 18 years of age are entitled to free dental treatment.
If you have an accident involving teeth there are emergency dentists open outside normal opening hours. Please find contact information for the emergency dentist in the region of Southern Denmark here.
