- I would like us to become better at taking care of our environment. It is not possible to focus on all aspects so it makes perfect sense to me that my job targets areas such as waste and companies, says 29-year-old Line Gammelby Juhl, who has an MSc in Environmental Technology. She is employed as an environmental officer in Technology and Environment in the municipality’s Environment and Industry team.
Visits companies
Line works with, what she calls, authoritative tasks within waste and industry:
- For example, I conduct inspections of companies and ensure that they comply with the law in relation to environmental impact. For example, I control their waste, and whether or not they comply with the conditions of air pollution as well as how they store and handle chemicals. I visit 30 different companies per year. It involves everything from large manufacturing companies to small garages, so I visit a lot of different places, she says.
Line is also responsible for the development and implementation of the municipality’s waste plan which she considers an important task:
- I think the challenges of society’s waste management are interesting and very relevant. Generally, we must get better at utilizing the waste. My education provides me with professional knowledge in eco-efficient technologies, legislation and waste management, which I use actively in my daily work.
Varied working day
Another of Line’s tasks is to take care of complaints from the citizens, for example, if someone complains about noise or smoke problems from their neighbour.
- I love the variety of challenges that my job entails. It provides an exciting and varied work day during which I am both a part of a team in the municipality and enjoy trips out of the office when I, for example, visit companies, she says and continues:
- I am happy when I feel my efforts are making a difference for the environment.
