Psychology is about people’s thoughts, feelings, needs and ideas etc. – why we think as we do and why we act as we do. Psychology as a discipline deals with the understanding of human nature in its entirety.

Psychologists generally work with creating change in people with various psychological problems, in an ethically sound way, on the basis of a holistic approach and evidence-based knowledge.

As a psychology student at SDU, you acquire the scientific basis necessary for you subsequently to be qualified to work as a psychologist. You will, for example, acquire knowledge of the role that psychologists have in society, the ethical rules applicable in the practice of psychology, thorough training in skills required to develop professionally as a psychologist etc.

How to become a psychologist at SDU:

To become a psychologist, you must complete a programme of study consisting of:

  • A three-year Bachelor’s programme in psychology, on completion of which the graduates acquire the title Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
  • A two-year Master’s programme, on completion of which the graduates acquire the title Master of Science in Psychology and the right to call themselves psychologist.
  • On graduation from the Master’s programme, students may enrol in a 3-year research programme (PhD).
