Quantum computing will be central among the new quantum technologies and will contribute to the acceleration of technological development and the ongoing digitalization.

It is expected that quantum computing will be implemented in cryptography and communication, prediction of the stock market and portfolio optimization, optimization in the energy sector, data analysis, quantum machine learning and search.

Quantum technology and quantum computing will be used in cryptography (including quantum-cryptography), cybersecurity, surveillance, and simulation of war-scenarios.

It will be possible to apply for a PhD scholarship in quantum computing, also in collaboration with industry. Interdisciplinary research will also be an opportunity, as it is expected that the computational power leveraged by quantum computing will enable breakthroughs and discoveries in all the sciences.

Furthermore, there will be many opportunities to apply for an Industrial PhD in collaboration with the quantum technology industry.

A Master’s degree from the Faculty of Science at SDU provides you with skills that go beyond your academic knowledge. In addition to the subject-specific competences that your particular degree programme offers, you also gain what we call 21st century skills.

As a graduate in Quantum Computing, you will possess knowledge of:

• core disciplines, principles, and methods within quantum computing and quantum cryptography
• existing platforms in quantum computing
• software aspects of quantum computing
• quantum algorithms, quantum protocols, and their practical applications
• the interplay between physics, computer science, mathematics, and engineering in quantum computing
• the literature and scientific terminology and tradition within quantum computing.

You will be capable of:

• programming quantum computers and developing quantum software on currently existing platforms
• implementing quantum algorithms and quantum protocols for practical computation and quantum cryptography
• conducting security analysis for a given quantum cryptography protocol
• identifying potential decoherence sources for a given implemented quantum algorithm and performing the necessary error correction
• explaining and communicating about quantum computing on a scientific basis, both in writing and orally
• identifying computational and/or information-theoretical problems that can be solved with quantum algorithms and/or quantum protocols
• analyzing and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of various quantum algorithms and quantum protocols, and comparing them with classical algorithms and security protocols
• systematically and scientifically acquiring new knowledge about developments in quantum computing.

With the international dimension of the programme, you will additionally acquire skills to handle professional and personal relationships in non-Danish cultural contexts and understand that the approach to the central topics and methods of the field is independent of national borders.
