DIAS event: Panel discussion on research excellence and merit

What constitutes excellence in research?
What role does merit play in this equation

DIAS is pleased to invite you to a panel debate on academic merit and research excellence.

At a time when society demands greater inclusion, enhanced social awareness, societal impact, a broadened sense of academic citizenship, and more qualitative approaches to academic assessment, how can and should universities shape their understanding of research excellence? How can universities best establish fair, transparent, and ambitious standards of merit?

A panel of prominent DIAS researchers will address this pressing concern and engage the public in a debate.
The panel will be chaired by DIAS director, Sten Rynning, who is also chairing an SDU task force on academic merit.

The SDU task force is to draft a university-wide framework policy for academic merit by the spring of 2025 and submit it to SDU’s executive board. The framework policy must align with SDU’s strategy of investing in excellent people and research, and it must define criteria for research assessment at all levels of career progression. The ambition behind the task force is to endow SDU with a clear, ambitious, and, from the perspective of researchers, meaningful policy on academic merit.

DIAS will make its voice heard in this process, and we encourage you to do likewise.
