Ever since he was a young PhD fellow, Aleksander Krag has been a member of EASL, and throughout the years he benefitted well from the expertise and educational activities provided by the world’s leading hepatology association. Over the years he has been a very active member, and now it is time to give back to the community, as he says: “Now it’s time for me to help lead the EASL activities, to pay a little back from all the benefits I have enjoyed over the years. To ensure that EASL continues to thrive and evolve as the number one platform in the world to learn, to share knowledge, […].” And he continues: “EASL strengthens the research, while at the same time conveying new knowledge to the clinic, such that patients also can benefit from the research”
As Vice-Secretary, Aleksander Krag will head a unit of 30 employees in Genéve and have a budget of more than DKK 100 million. After two years, in mid-2023, he will for a two-year period become Secretary General of EASL. Meanwhile he continues as director and professor in FLASH - Centre for Liver Research at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Odense University Hospital (OUH), as well as valuable partner in ATLAS - Center for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity at SDU.
“My aim is always to have the patient in focus. The research must benefit the patient, and therefore we must deliver the most outstanding research. This can only be achieved by collaborating with the best researchers from all over the world and at all times have access to the newest knowledge on liver diseases. Here EASL is an excellent platform that gives all hepatologists access to unique knowledge and network”
