Katja Sarmiento-Mirwaldt

Katja Brunel

Katja Sarmiento-Mirwaldt is Reader in European Politics at Brunel University London. She specializes in contemporary European politics, borders in the EU, and specifically the question of what promotes trust and good neighbourly relations among border region residents. Originally from Germany, Katja has a special affinity for Polish culture. This has led her to focus her research on the Polish-German border region, a particularly interesting case of attempts at building neighbourly citizen relations across the border after long periods of conflict and estrangement. Katja lives in the United Kingdom, which has given her a chance to observe Euroscepticism and ‘Brexit’ at close quarters. Bringing together all her diverse interests, she co-leads a work package on Euroscepticism in border regions in B-Shapes.
