The wind tunnel at SDU was constructed with funding from a Villum young investigator grant. The tunnel is designed specifically to study bat echolocation in flight. It can operate at speeds from 0 m/s to 10 m/s, covering most of the natural flight speeds for bats. It features a very large test-section (1.8 x 1.8 x 4 meters) and is fitted with a large multi-microphone array and high-speed stereo video systems. The tunnel allows us to study the minute details of how bats emit and receive sound in flight.
