Description of research:
Better Hearing Rehabilitation (BEAR): This project is a 50 mill DKK nationwide project investigating new possibilities to differentiate and treat different types of hearing loss. Today most patients are examined with an audiogram only, which only partly explains the hearing loss. The project will investigate the current audiological clinical evaluation and treatment as well as new diagnostic tests and treatment possibilities. This will lead to a new investigation and treatment strategy which will be tested in a randomized controlled trial with the existing evaluation and treatment program as comparator.
Automated app-based audiometry: This project is done in collaboration with Maersk McKinney Møller Institute, SDU. The purpose is to create and clinical validate a method for app-based home audiometry to be used to test hearing at patients’ homes. The automated audiometry will be used for the purpose to monitor hearing in patients treated with the ototoxic drug cisplatin.
Intervention program for children with tinnitus: The purpose of this study is to evaluate if an intervention with children with tinnitus can lower the impact of tinnitus.

Infrastructure:
We have equipments for conduction hearing tests with headphones and free field in a sound proofed booth as well as an anechoic chamber. We can do tests both with speech and tones as well as in quiet and noise. These tests are subjective hearing tests. Severel tests related to hearing such as auditory brain stem response, auditory steady state response, otocaoustic emisions, wide band tymponometry, cochleography are aavailable. These tests are all objecive hearing tests assesing different parts of the hearing system.
