Work/Research interests
We investigate how interactions between cancer cells and their microenvironment regulate tumor progression and therapy responses. While cancercell intrinsic factors, such as its genetic and epigenetic traits, play a role in therapy resistance, it is now also well appreciated that the tumor microenvironment (TME) modulates response to therapy. For instance, inflammatory cells (e.g., neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages) can provide signals for the behavior of cancer cells during cancer progression.
We use mouse models to study the tumor microenvironment, focusing on resistance of tumors to various targeted cancer treatments with a particular focus on how features in the tumor microenvironment, including neutrophils, can be targeted to improve the treatment for patients with lung and breast cancer.
