Batteries have been used in various applications, such as renewable energy systems and electric vehicles, to address global challenges.

With numerous benefits such as environmental sustainability, renewability, accessibility, low maintenance costs, diverse applications, and economic savings, batteries hold significant promise for both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

At the Battery Research Group, we are committed to pioneering research and development in battery modeling, battery management systems (BMS), data-driven diagnosis, and second-life battery applications. Our efforts are aimed at enhancing performance, reliability, and efficiency by introducing innovative solutions to current challenges. This includes research and development activities on:

Battery Modeling and Simulation

  • Comprehensive Battery Models: Developing advanced models that integrate electrochemical and thermal behaviors to predict battery performance and lifecycle.
  • Digital Twins: Creating real-time digital twins of batteries for continuous monitoring, diagnostics, and predictive maintenance.

Battery Management Systems (BMS)

  • State Estimation Algorithms: Innovating algorithms for precise estimation of state-of-charge (SOC) and state-of-health (SOH) to optimize battery usage.
  • Fault Detection and Tolerance: Designing robust fault detection mechanisms and fault-tolerant strategies to ensure reliable battery operation.

Data-Driven Diagnosis and Prognosis

  • Machine Learning and AI Applications: Utilizing machine learning and AI for accurate fault detection, remaining useful life (RUL) prediction, and predictive maintenance.
  • Advanced Data Acquisition Systems: Developing cutting-edge sensors and data acquisition systems for real-time monitoring and analysis of battery conditions.

Battery Applications

  • Renewable Energy Integration: Exploring the use of second-life batteries for renewable energy storage and grid stabilization to maximize their lifecycle.
  • Modular System Design: Designing scalable and modular systems for integrating of second-life batteries into various new applications, ensuring economic and environmental benefits.
