PtX plant in Kassø

The PtX plant in Kassø is the world´s first large-scale commercial e-Methanol production facility with hydrogen being provided by a 50 mega-watt (MW) electrolyzer plant provided by Siemens Energy. It will be constructed at Kassø, located west of Aabenraa in Southern Denmark and close to the Danish-German border. The project will have access to low-cost renewable electricity required to make cost-effective e-Fuel through the nearby 300 MW solar park of Kassø, created by European Energy. The end users of the e-Methanol will include the shipping company Maersk and the fuel retailer Circle K. The project will ensure the e-Methanol supply for Maersk`s first e-Methanol driven container vessel, and thus marks the starting point into large-scale CO2-neutral shipping. The start of commercial methanol production is planned for the second half of 2023.

The electrolysis system will be designed, supplied, and put into service by Siemens Energy. It will include three full arrays of its most recent and powerful PEM (proton exchange membrane) electrolysis products, including transformers, rectifiers, distributed control system (DCS), and the equipment to produce demineralized water. The project owner, European Energy, will oversee the engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance of the facility.

CIM's responsibility is to create IT solutions for the system operation to optimize hydrogen generation. Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to forecast the demand for district heating as well as the electricity output of photovoltaic systems. The most effective schedule for hydrogen generation is created using the prediction algorithms.
