IFUL ends as an institute - but will continue as a centre called CLF
By request from the University, the board of the University has decided that the three social science deparments at University of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg are merged into one new common department as per 1 January 2010. The three departments are: Department of Environmental and Business Economics (IME), Department of Maritime Research and Innovation (MFI) and 'ourselves'. Both MFI and IFUL are reorganized as centres and are part of the new common Department of Environmental Business Institute.
IFUL's scientific staff continue in unchanged posts, and tasks and cooperation with the Danish Ministry of Interior and Social Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries will be continued completely as before. IFUL's Head of Institute, Flemming Just, is appointed head of the new department, and will temporarily continue as Head of Centre for Rural Research, but the post as new head of CLF will be advertised soon.
The merger is intended as a reinforcement of IFUL's work as a larger department will create a possibility for enhanced cooperation between rural research and the other social science areas at University of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg. The general, professional development is also expected to expand the role of University of Southern Denmark as a significant player in developing Southwest Jutland.
The new centre will continue the regular distribution of newsletters which also will provide information about the further development of the merger.
