Denmark's first professor of rural areas: Gunnar Svendsen
Despite the great importance rural areas have had to Danish history, politics and economy, the area has not yet had its own Danish professor. This is now remedied as CLF's associate professor, Gunnar Lind Haase Svendsen, has jut been nominated for a professorship in rural sociology at University of Southern Denmark in Esbjerg with accession on 1 January 2010.
As professor, Gunnar Svendsen will be lead researcher in the field, and will be responsible for developing the profession both in a Danish and not least in an international context as the field is rapidly developing. Moreover, the new professor will be a mainstay in creating new education courses and developing new research projects. We wish both Gunnar Svendsen and the Danish rural areas congratulations!
