Politicians and experts increasingly refer to values. There’s talk of a value struggle, Danish values etc. But which values are really important for the Danish society? How are the values doing? And isn’t values just something you talk abour while technocrats and their incremental adjustments have taken over the management of the welfare state?
In this volume we take values seriously. 10 Danish researchers wrestle an array of values and institutions that we normally use to characterize the Danish welfare state: Trust, equality, benevolence, justice, the nation, the democracy, community and solidarity, equal rights, work and freedom. In addition three politicians discuss the normative foundation of the welfare state from three classic positions in Danish politics: Liberalism, Conservatism and Social democracy.
