The research project aims to elucidate the embodied and cultural practice and the societal value of urban lifestyle sport. A discourse about urban lifestyle sport as an effective tool to increase sport participation and secure social inclusion in sport has been widespread. This discourse can be connected to the emergence of several organisations and NGOs working with urban lifestyle sport as a tool for social change. Despite that, research on urban lifestyle sport as an effective tool to target social problems is lacking. At the same time, there is also a prevailing need for a deeper, academic examination of what urban lifestyle sport is. The project therefore includes a conceptual consolidation of urban lifestyle sports as a category of lifestyle sports and a deeper examination of the social benefits of urban lifestyle sport. The outcome is valuable insights for sport policymakers, PE educators and urban planners.
