How culture moves us

This is a collaboration between MoCS, RITMO centre for interdisciplinary studies in rhythm, time and motion at University of Oslo, the Danish String Quartet and other musicians/ensembles. The research concerns the organization, staging and data-analysis of experimental concerts, in which musicians perform real concerts, usually in real concert venues, while researchers generate empirical data about mental and physical processes from both audience and musicians. A recent example from 2021 is “MusicLab Copenhagen”: about 15 engineers, music psychologists, anthropologists, biologists, and philosophers, from 6 countries in Europe with the Danish String Quartet held a large classical concert serving as a platform for various experiments about what it means to be together in music. For a documentary video, open data and project description, see link. The results are planned for publication in a special collection of Music and Science.
