#WeDoCare: The research unit for nursing care for infants, children, young people, and their relatives affiliated with the hospital system.

Who we are:

We are the research unit #WeDoCare, a dedicated unit within the Children and Youth Department at Zealand University Hospital, Region Zealand, focusing on improving nursing care for children and young people. The research unit #WeDoCare is not just the name of our research unit; it is our commitment to enhancing children's illness and health experiences. The name symbolizes our care and dedication to providing nursing care based on empathy and respect for children's perspectives and rights.

What is our mission:

To enhance well-being and reduce vulnerability in the lives of children, young people, and their families in contact with the healthcare system.

What we contribute:

We integrate international expertise and use methods involving users to investigate how living with illness affects infants, children, young people, and their families. Our work is anchored in Region Zealand and strengthens the research environment, especially in nursing care for infants, children, young people, and their families. This is in line with Region Zealand's health policy and contributes to sustainable development in caregiving for the youngest citizens.

What is our scientific content:

Our research is curious, systematic, and grounded in nursing theory. We have a particular focus on care, ethics, and pedagogy to generate research-based knowledge within the field of supportive care. This work reinforces the patient-centered approach and helps navigate complex issues.

Why we conduct research:

Our ambition is to contribute to person-centered, reflective nursing care based on continuity, evidence, and strengthened professional skills. This aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and creates a healthcare system where children, young people, and relatives feel welcome and respected.

What is our commitment and goals:

We are a unit characterized by practical attachment, openness, and trust. Despite the global shortage of nurses, we strive to be an attractive workplace and partner. Our commitment is to improve the experience of illness for infants, children and young people through practice-based nursing research. The goal is to create groundbreaking projects, publications, and debates that position us as a nationally recognized knowledge bank. We aim to understand and integrate children's perspectives in the healthcare system, focusing on making the experience positive and supportive. In Region Zealand, where the hospital admission rate is high, we seek to transform the healthcare system to be more child- and family-friendly.
