Project idea and objective
The project investigates how structural timber can be assessed and reused as load-bearing structures in new buildings. The project investigates how a non-destructive testing method can be used to assess the capacity of the timber. The evidence is assessed on the basis of destructive tests.
The project is based on a specific case with reuse of the timber roof structures from the demolition of 363 row houses.
As a part of the project, a large experimental programme is designed to establish statistical evidence that can be used as fundamental background for the statistical evaluation when assessing the capacity of future reuse cases.
The project aims to establish experimental evidence and practical experience for circular construction with the reuse of timber structures in the future. An important part of the experimental evidence is to establish greater knowledge about the statistical variation of the strength properties of timber structures.
