Sustainable Transitions of Global Supply Chains: lnsights from Myanmar's Garment Industry

The Myanmar garment sector has been characterized, since its formalization over two decades ago, by a series of successes and uncertainties, ups and downs that generally mimic the country’s political situation and its compliance. Despite facing challenges related to political instability, Myanmar’s garment sector has experienced significant growth in the past decade compared to previous periods. ILO (2020) suggested that ensuring the health and safety of workers in the workplace is essential to maintaining productivity of the garment sector.

The practical goal is that the knowledge should be useful for international buyers to design supplier development programs supporting introduction and sustainment of integrated sustainability activities among suppliers, to enhance production efficiency while ensuring employee’s well-being.
