The aim is to improve animal welfare, production and sustainability in dairy cows through the development of new welfare indicators that help farmers to think and work preventively. The welfare indicators are based on data from milking and monitoring equipment, allowing for an objective, continuous assessment of animal welfare. At the same time, these welfare indicators will contribute to a high level of care.
The effect is improved animal welfare for cows, as poor conditions or diseases are detected early, allowing for necessary changes. At the same time, the marketing chain gains access to fresh, objective welfare assessments for customers and interested consumers. This will improve agriculture economically and reduce climate impact when animals live longer and produce better. The perceived welfare of the animals will be able to supplement or replace current legislation in the assessment of animal welfare.
