The purpose of the section is to develop and disseminate efficient and effective methods for the development of quality software for complex and critical systems. 

Developing high-quality human oriented software for academic and industrial purposes are cornerstone in solving many of the challenges addressed by the SDGs. Specifically 8.2 addressing high-value added and labour-intensive sectors that will benefit from innovative software targeting optimisation and automation. This will also target 8.4 by increasing resource efficiency in production. Furthermore 9.5 is addressed through the focus on software targeting industrial sectors enhancing scientific research and innovation. 

The focus on open source software for the above mentioned areas targets 17.6 and 17.18 by enabling easy and feasible access to relevant technology (software).
