The programme is funded by scholarships from national and international research foundations and the support of both governmental institutions and the private sector.
The programme provides PhD students the opportunity to elucidate fundamental research questions within biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, protein chemistry and cell biology using our interdisciplinary state-of-the-art facilities.
Each specific research topic will be optimised to the student’s own interests and the individual laboratory chosen.

The programme additionally provides seminars, workshops and lectures given by national and international scientists to encourage and facilitate internal and external networking among students and faculty members.
The research training programme includes participation in courses relevant to the PhD project while mobility programmes give the opportunity to broaden research interests by visiting laboratories outside SDU.
Successful completion of the PhD degree requires fulfilling the general PhD programme requirements at SDU, as well as submission of a written thesis
containing at least one peer-reviewed full-length article of which the PhD student is the first author.
