The Faculty of Science has four diverse departments. The joint expertise of those departments spans all the natural science disciplines. Our scientists strive to understand the smallest structures of the universe and the universe as a whole. They develop new ways to preserve biodiversity and restore the environment that is crumbling right before our eyes. They dig into the deepest secrets of mathematics and implement their findings in next-generation technologies. They build chemicals never seen before and use them to solve emerging problems. They unravel the mysteries of DNA and proteins, the building blocks of life. They devise new ways to tackle incurable diseases head-on, all the way from drug discovery to drug delivery.

BI
Department of Biology
Research and teaching at the Department of Biology covers a wide range of topics, from basic questions on the origin of life on Earth to societal challenges such as climate change and fate of pollutants in the environment. Our vision is to provide an attractive and dynamic environment educating biologists and young researchers to solve global challenges of the future.

BMB
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Research at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is essentially about the study of the fundamental processes that control all cellular life and development. We are very internationally oriented and our research takes place in close cooperation with many international research institutions and enterprises.
-
FKF
Department of Physics, Chemistry and Phamarcy
The department carries out research within and between the areas of physics, chemistry and pharmacy, and hosts several larger research centers. The department is responsible for the education within physics, chemistry, nanobioscience, medicinal chemistry and pharmacy.

IMADA
Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
Our scientists work to create knowledge about algorithms, discrete lattice field theory, optimization, computational mathematics, mathematical analysis, data analysis and statistics. We cooperate with other fields of research at SDU and internationally on both pure and applied research.
