DKK 19.9 million from the Carlsberg Foundation to SDU BSS

No less than ten researchers at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at SDU have just received research grants from the Carlsberg Foundation.

This year’s grants from the Carlsberg Foundation have just been awarded, and ten researchers at the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences receive a total of DKK 19.9 million to explore important scientific research questions.

Together, this year’s grants constitute the largest amount of funding received by the Faculty from the Carlsberg Foundation. With the ten grants, this is the second consecutive year in which the Faculty has received more than DKK 100 million in external funding.

In 2023, the Carlsberg Foundation’s grants have been awarded to research on everything from local democracy to sustainable pesticide solutions and how conditions such as unemployment and job security affect mental health.

Semper Ardens: Accelerate

Davide Morisi, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, receives DKK 4,997,200 for his project: Let the people rule, but let them talk first. How deliberative referendums can benefit representative government (DeliBref).

Julia Bronnmann, Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economics, receives DKK 4,988,000 for her project: Greener Fields for Safer Plates: Sustainable Pesticide Solutions (SAFEPLATE).

Seetha Menon, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, receives DKK 4,566,000 for her project: Beyond the Paycheck: Insights into the effect of Unemployment, Organizational Change, and Job Security on Mental Health.

Monograph Fellowships

Ulrik Kjær, Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, receives DKK 1,131,000 for a monograph: Local Democratic Elections – The Diagonal View.

Karol J. Borowiecki, Professor at the Department of Economics, receives DKK 956,000 for a monograph: What Makes a Great Composer? Insights on Creativity from a Millennium of Data.

Sergey Utkin, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, receives DKK 774,000 for a monograph: The Russian Decoupling: Where the war in Ukraine brings Europe and the World.

Research Infrastructure

Mette Kjærgaard Thomsen, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, receives DKK 767,126 for her project: Digital Exclusion: Conceptualization and Consequences (DECC).

Jørgen T. Lauridsen, Professor at the Department of Economics, receives DKK 691,848 for his project: Future-proofing of the Danish SHARE database.

Internationalisation Fellowships

Barbora Gulisova, postdoc at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, receives DKK 900,000 to conduct research at the University of Girona, Spain and her project: Multiple place attachment – a friend or a foe in place branding?

Field Trips/Research Stays

Marian van Bakel, Associate Professor at the Department of Business & Management, receives DKK 184,000 to conduct research at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and her project: What about the rest of us? The role of host country nationals in multinational enterprises

Facts

The Carlsberg Foundation has awarded almost DKK 460 million in funding to 192 researchers. This year’s distributions were based on a total of 827 applications.

All applications for Semper Ardens Accomplish and Semper Ardens Accelerate were submitted for international external assessment before the Carlsberg Foundation’s Board of Directors made its final decision on the Foundation’s distributions.
