Consultant Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt, PhD, has been appointed professor at the Department of Clinical Research at the University of Southern Denmark and the Department of Nuclear Medicine, OUH, as of 1 January.

By Tomas Homburg, , 2/21/2024

Since 2018, she has been a senior researcher at the Centre for Innovative Medical Technology and head of OUH’s frontline centre PREMIO (Personalized Response Monitoring in Oncology). From January 2024, the research of Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt and her colleagues in PREMIO will form the basis for a larger European collaboration, PREMIO COLLAB, which Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt will lead. The project has recently received a grant of DKK 60 million from the European Commission.

The main purpose of the European project is to investigate how PET scans can be used to evaluate treatment response in patients with incurable breast cancer. The goal is to extend survival for this patient group by up to one year – from an average survival of around three years to around four years.

Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt’s vision is to establish more evidence for clinical diagnostic guidelines through research projects that involve patients as partners, thereby ensuring relevance for the patients. She sees a future where nuclear medicine plays a greater role in the healthcare sector, particularly in the growing field of developing targeted radiotherapy for cancer, known as radioligand therapy.

Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt has also had a major influence on the education programme at SDU. She has been the driving force behind the Research Profile on the eleventh semester of the medical programme at SDU. Malene is a member of the treatment council at OUH, chair of the working group Strong Research Culture at OUH/SDU and is a board member of DBCG (Danish Breast Cancer Group), where she has contributed to diagnostic imaging (radiology) guidelines.

Malene Grubbe Hildebrandt has over 15 years of experience as a clinical associate professor at the Department of Clinical Research, SDU, and more than a decade of experience as a consultant in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, OUH. Since 2019, she has also worked at the Department as a head of research. In addition to her PhD, she holds a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the prestigious Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
