Launch of the Translational Cancer Hub
The Translational Cancer Hub (TCH) in Odense, is a unique initiative that aims to significantly advance and bridge clinical and basic cancer research.
This initiative comes as Odense University Hospital relocates to the SDU campus, creating a dynamic environment that will foster close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers at the University of Southern Denmark, across faculties, research areas and professions.
The Translational Cancer Hub is expected to make new groundbreaking discoveries in cancer research and expedite the development of new diagnostic tools and treatments.
-The Hub is designed to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical practice, enhancing interdisciplinary efforts to advance cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Through encouraging and financial backing collaborations among experts across diverse disciplines, we anticipate expediting the translation of laboratory findings into clinical applications, thereby significantly benefiting cancer patients, says Head of TCH Associate Professor Paolo Ceppi, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
A catalyst for breakthroughs in cancer research
Paolo Ceppi also highlights the importance of elevating Odense's status as a leading center for cancer research, attracting top talents and offering new opportunities for emerging researchers.
Professor Vijay Tiwari, Basic Research Coordinator of the TCH and Professor at the Department of Molecular Medicine, says:
- TCH will be a catalyst for breakthroughs in cancer research, allowing us to push the boundaries of innovation and medicine, and bring forward new solutions in precision oncology that can change patient outcomes. Recognizing the key role of data science in accelerating cancer research, the establishment of a bioinformatics facility within the TCH will boost interdisciplinarity, innovation and collaborations.
More targeted and effective treatment options
Reflecting on how this initiative will impact patient care, Professor Henrik Ditzel, TCH Clinical Research Coordinator and Professor at the Department of Clinical Research and Odense University Hospital, says:
-The collaborative framework of the TCH not only accelerates the development of innovative treatments but also improves our approach to personalized medicine, offering cancer patients more targeted and effective treatment options. This initiative may facilitate clinicians in comprehending intriguing clinical observations by collaborating with basic scientists to understand the underlying mechanisms.
